Veterans unite for peace day
The event, held in the United Nations buffer zone on Monday, was held to help bolster efforts for the reunification of Cyprus.
It happened a week after the international day of peace of 21st September because of the Seker Bayram Holidays.
Admiral Mario Sandchez Deberardi, commander of the Un forces in Cyprus said the event at Ledra Palace hotel, aimed to commemorate and strengthen the "ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples".
The chariman of the Green Cypriot war veterans association Loizos Demetrious 82, called for the eforrts to make th 21st century free of misur and pain caused by war.
"The message of the secretary of the general of UN is a call to all nations and all please to cease all hostilities for the entire day" he said.
Turkish Cypriot Tahsin Aliriza Gorguner, 85, served in the Royal Air Force alongside glafkos clerides, the former Greek Cypriot President. He added "may god help Christofias and Talat to find a solution and reunite and our place.
